PNG Prime Minister James Marape Blames Electoral Commission for Election hiccups

Papua New Guinea Prime Minister and the sitting Member for Tari Pori has expressed concern over the manner in which the election is being conducted so far. James Marape expressed this concern today in his electorate in Hela Province, where counting will start tomorrow.  He said preparations and logistics were slow and the electoral roll was not adequately prepared. Mr. Marape said there was a drop of about 800 names from the roll in his village – adding that no-one should be turned away at the polls. He’s promised to fix these issues when he forms Government. Meanwhile, East Sepik Government Allan Bird wants the new government to consider creating a Special Parliamentary Committee on Elections, to oversee some roles of the Electoral Commission. He says that the provinces should also apply to the Supreme Court to remove the functions of Electoral roll updates from the Electoral Commission and take it to the provinces. Opel upcharges Mokka

Opel has changed the name of its battery electric version of the Mokka SUV to Mokka Electric rather than Mokka-e, writes Brian Byrne. The car also gets a new 54kWh battery, increasing the rated range by 20pc to 406km. Mokka was the first Opel available from launch with fully electric drive as well as combustion engines, thus giving customers the choice of which drive suits their needs best. In November, no less than 65pc of all Mokka customers in Germany opted for the battery-electric variant. Twelve electrified Opel models are already available today, including a range of light commercial vehicles. By 2024, the manufacturer will also offer every model in an electrified version. And by 2028, Opel expects become an all-electric brand in Europe.
