Peoples National Congress Party candidate Simon Sia currently leads the race with 127, 974 votes followed by former Governor and leader of PNG One National Party Peter Numu with 113, 828 votes. On third place is United Labour Party candidate Livingstone Fontenu with 57 478 votes while PNG Party candidate James Pupune trails on fourth spot with 39, 596 votes and rounding off the top five sees independent candidate Pius Kasampi with 31, 697 votes on fifth spot. Papua New Guinea  Prime Minister  James Marape says the ruling Pangu Pati and other members of the Coalition Government supported the reelection of Sir Bob Dadae as Governor-General in Parliament today (Thursday, January 19, 2023) to maintain “continuity and stability”.  He said this after Sir Bob polled 71 votes to finish ahead of former Papua New Guinea High Commissioner to the United Kingdon, Winnie Kiap, with 33 votes.
