Kaupa Retains Moresby North-East Open Seat

Sitting Member for Moresby North-East and PANGU Pati candidate John Kaupa has retained his seat. Mr. Kaupa was officially declared at 2pm this afternoon by the Returning Officer, Billy George at the Sir John Guise Stadium. Mr. Kaupa polled 18,365 votes surpassing the absolute majority of 18,038. His runner up, independent candidate, Andapanga Alfred Baliawe polled 17,508 votes. In his speech, Mr. Kaupa acknowledged the people of Moresby North-East for having the trust and confidence in him to serve them for another term of Parliament. He also thanked the other 75 candidates for a good race in the national election and for ensuring the smooth running of the counting process. PNG Education Department to address Poor Teacher Attendance

Papua New Guinea Education Secretary Dr. Uke Kombra has singled out teacher’s attendance to class as an emerging issue that the Department needs to deal with urgently. Education Secretary Dr. Uke Kombra Dr. Kombra highlighted this when speaking at the opening of the National Teachers Rating Conference in Port Moresby yesterday. The Education Secretary says its a task that will need a collaborative effort from everyone within the education system. “In order for Papua New Guinea to address the issue or challenge of quality education – one area that we are all going to attend to is zero tolerance on teacher attendance. We must all address this. No one else will come and do it. Inspectors cannot say its PAs job. PA should not say its Inspectors job or teachers job. New small Volvo EV for reveal in June

EX30 outline on left, teased last November beside new EX90. Volvo will be revealing a new electric car in June, smaller than anything in its existing Recharge EV range, writes Brian Byrne. What is expected to be named the EX30 will sit below the C40 and XC40 Recharge cars. It was teased at last November’s reveal of the new flagship car, the EX90, when it appeared as a flashing outline in a shot of the bigger car at the end of the event. According to reports in the US-based Motor Authority online magazine, the car will be built in China on an EV platform owned by Volvo parent company Geely. The company hopes it will bring more affordability to the brand, and younger customers.
