Despite the name, the Wollemi pine is not a true pine, nor a member of the pine family – Pinaceae, but is in fact related to Agathis and Araucaria in the family Araucariaceae – many of whose species are also known as ‘pines’. Well of course this will depend on your Wollemi pine being provided favourable growing conditions, otherwise growth rate will become either insignificant or even attritional! The alpine garden at Nymans in West Sussex is one of the key features here.
