Air Niugini has advised the travelling public that due to the deteriorating condition of the runway surface at Aropa Airport, Autonomous Region Of Bougainville (AROB), all services to Kieta have been suspended until further notice. Passengers with tickets for Kieta may reroute them to/from Buka at no additional costs, rebook for a later date, or apply for a refund. Air Niugini regrets any inconvenience caused to our customers, however the situation is outside the airline’s control.  Safety is always of paramount importance in our operations. H.E. Grand Chief Sir Bob Bofeng Dadae, Governor General of Papua New Guinea, has expressed sadness at the passing of former Official Secretary Sir Tipo Vuatha. Sir Tipo succumbed to illness and passed away last week. Sir Tipo was the longest serving Official Secretary at the Governor General’s Office and served three Governor Generals, Sir Silas Atopare, Grand Chief Sir Paulias Matane and Grand Chief Sir Michael Ogio from 1997 to 2016.  He commenced employment at the Governor General’s Office as an Accountant in the early 1990s and made his way up to the position of the Official Secretary in charge of administration of Government House. In 2007, Sir Tipo was awarded Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order, LVO, the only recipient of this award in the country.  In 2016, shortly before retiring at the age of 65, Sir Tipo received the award of Knight Bachelor in recognition for his service to the Governor General’s Office as Official Secretary and as a long serving public servant.
