HOUSE SITTING: A FREE WAY FOR VEGANS TO TRAVEL

People often ask me how I was able to afford to travel the world for four years straight, across five continents. The answer is easy: house sitting . And it turns out, like most things, house sitting is improved by veganism. This is a long house sitting blog post, split up into these sections: What is house sitting? What is vegan house sitting? Why is house sitting perfect for vegans Are there any downsides to vegan house sitting? Dream vegan house sits How to start house sitting 1. What is House Sitting? First things first, what is house sitting? House sitting is where you live in and look after a house while its owner is away. In exchange for caring for the house (and more often than not the odd pet or three), house sitters receive free accommodation, free bills, free wifi and often free car rental and sometimes free food. What does this mean? At its minimum, house sitters can suddenly live at a fraction of the cost of before – think for a minute how much you spend on rent/mortg...

PNG's Porgera Mine to reopen in June but Pressing Outstanding issues yet to be resolved : Ipatas

By By Mortimer Yangharry | FM 100  PNG’s veteran Enga Governor Sir Peter Ipatas told the Enga Provincial Assembly on Monday afternoon that the delay in the reopening of the Porgera mine is not necessarily caused by the national government nor the provincial government but by pressing issues at hand. Sir Peter informed the Provincial Assembly that the delay in reopening of the Porgera mine was due to the pressing shareholding issues and complicated necessary taxation processes which the national government had no control over.  Picture: Veteran Enga governor Sir Peter Ipatas (middle) chairing the first Provincial Assembly Meeting of the year on Tuesday at the Provincial Assembly Hall, Ipatas Centre [Photo FM 100] He admitted that for the last three years, the internal revenue of the province was badly affected due to the premature closure of the mine. “Impact projects funded by the tax credit schemes and other royalties from the mine did not happen since May 2019 when the Po...

Unchalli Falls: Stunning Monsoon Holiday Destination of Karnataka

2020 has been a tough year for all of us, but it has also been a year when the rain gods have been mighty kind to us. The monsoons in 2020 have been more than normal and this has ensured that all the waterfalls, streams, rivers, lakes, reservoirs and dams are brimming full with water. And what better place to experience the abundant monsoons up close than the waterfall region of Karnataka that we all know as Uttara Kannada. A gorgeous monsoon holiday destination here is Unchalli Falls, a loud waterfall that is created by a 381 feet drop in the Aghanashini river. The waterfall holiday to Unchalli falls begins when you find yourself on the beautiful winding ghat roads of the Sirsi-Kumta highway and the view gets even better when you turn off the highway at Aminahalli to go towards Heggarni. Persistent rains, pretty little villages surrounded by fresh paddy, lush green landscapes and a single lane road give you company. Green mountain peaks show you their face as you climb and descend the...

Skoda Ireland expecting increased 4x4 EV sales

All wheel drive versions of the performance variants of the Skoda Enyaq EV are scheduled to arrive in Ireland in the early part of this year, writes Brian Byrne. Skoda Ireland expects to see a significant increase in the number of 4×4 Skodas here when the 4×4 Enyaq RS and Enyaq Coupe RS arrive. Skoda Ireland’s Product Manager Libor Pavlas says that with the arrival last year of the Enyaq 80X, the AWD version of the brand’s EV SUV, the format now represents 10pc of all Enyaq orders. There’s a premium of €2,960 over the two-wheel drive version, with no change in annual road tax and minimal impact on range. Following Ireland’s coldest winter in 130 years in 2010, Skoda Ireland took a marketing position to promote 4×4 vehicles and succeeded in increasing AWD sales by a factory of five. “Subsequent winters have proved milder which has coincided with a reduction in demand for 4×4 vehicles but Skoda still has a loyal band of 4×4 customers ...

Mitchell Maxwell's LITTLE DID I KNOW

Mitchell Maxwell, a Tony Award-winning producer, director and 35-year veteran of the entertainment industry, has come out with his new novel, LITTLE DID I KNOW (Prospecta Press; October 5, 2011; $25.00) written in classic roman á clef style. This is a daring coming-of-age tale filled with romance, laughter, heartbreak and applause about a young entrepreneur who sets the stage for fledgling artists while living a life so many aspire to but never realize. Told with compassion and the kind of detail only a Broadway veteran like Mitchell Maxwell can provide, LITTLE DID I KNOW is a novel about being in the spotlight and embracing destiny in a single season. EXCERPT: Only a handful of us remained now that the late hour had become early dawn. My best friend, Secunda, who had acted confidently, brilliantly in many of our shows lamented, “Now what do we do? This ride can’t just end. Figure something out, Sammy.” “Yeah, we need to keep that torch burning,” Secunda’s younger brother ...

Review - The Quiet Gentleman by Georgette Heyer

Sourcebooks Casablanca, 347p, ISBN: 1402238835 Synopsis – Returning to his family seat from Waterloo, Gervase Frant, seventh Earl of St Erth, could have expected more enthusiasm for his homecoming. His quiet cousin, stepmother, and young half-brother seem openly disappointed that he survived the wars.  And when he begins to fall for his half-brother’s sweetheart, his chilly reception goes from unfriendly to positively murderous. Yes, this is a sort of a murder mystery, my dear Heyer fans. Or rather attempted murder, I should say (that’s not a spoiler, for I’m sure you guessed the hero can’t be murdered – right?). I feel the real mystery lies in the romance part of it, for till the end the reader is left wondering who exactly will end up with whom. Not at all the usual sort of fare we’ve come to expect from this wonderful romance author of yester years, but one which she writes surprisingly well. Read more »
