PNG Election: Candidates go to court to stop Wapenamanda Counting

The Sitting Member for Wapenamanda, Rimbink Pato and two other candidates are seeking interim orders from the National Court in Waigani to stop the counting of ballot boxes for the electorate in the province. Lawyer appearing on behalf of the plaintiffs, Nathan Pilamb made the application verbally as a matter of urgency. He submitted that word on the ground is that the Election Manager for Enga or the Returning Officer for Wapenamanda have brought the ballot boxes to the counting venue, in preparation for counting to begin this afternoon. Mr. Pilamb claims that this is despite a lawful directive from the Electoral Commissioner on July 19th, 2022 to transfer all the ballot boxes for Enga to Jiwaka Province, for scrutiny and counting, because of security reasons. Therefore, they are seeking interim injunctions to stop counting in the Province and for the Court to give effect to the Electoral Commissioner’s directive, to be complied with. Marape thanks Opposition for his unopposed re-election as PNG Prime Minister

 PNG Prime Minister, James Marape has thanked members of the Opposition in an unprecedented move on Tuesday, to vote for him and the Speaker of the 11th Parliament. PNG Prime Minister, James Marape  He says this is the first time, that members from both sides of the House voted in favour of a prime minister.  Mr. Marape was re-elected unopposed with  97 votes to nil.  The only member who abstained from voting and left the chamber, was the Leader of the People’s National Congress Party, Peter O’Neill.  Mr Marape was speaking at the Government House yesterday. PNGTPA Highlights Re-Opening of Cruise Tourism Papua New Guinea

The re-opening of cruise borders in Papua New Guinea welcomed the arrival of its first maiden cruise ship in Alotau, on Friday 7th October 2022, by the stunning Pacific Encounter. The cruise ship had a total of 2400 cruise tourists on board that arrived from Carins Australia, with Alotau being its first port of call in PNG waters. The cruise ship was escorted into the wharf area by traditional war canoes then followed by local sing-sing groups that danced and sang to the cruise tourists as they disembarked to go on their pre-booked tours or independent tours. The Milne Bay Tourism Bureau also had Volunteer Youth Ambassadors (VYA) on the ground ready and waiting to assist any tourist that needed a guide to tour the town. The official welcome ceremony was held at the wharf area to commemorate the cruise ship’s arrival.
