PNG PM Marape appeals for Citizens to take Voting Seriously as Campaign winds down

Prime Minister, James Marape, has appealed to Papua New Guineans to take voting seriously, as the country goes to the polls next Monday.  He said the call in Kavieng today as campaigning ends tomorrow. “As campaigns draw to a close across the nation, Mr Marape appealed for peace and reflection over the weekend, before voting starts on Monday. He urged people to pray for God’s inspiration on the election process and the best outcome for PNG. He says God sees right through all motives and the best team of leaders for the next five years will emerge from the campaign and voting. Mr Marape says leaders must be elected to fix those challenges because the bucks stop with leaders, especially the person who becomes the Prime Minister. Our Development Party Leader Charles Abel Bows out of Milne Bay Regional Race

Leader of Our Development Party and three-term Alotau Open MP Charles Abel has been eliminated from the race for the Milne Bay Regional seat. Counting for this seat has been suspended to tomorrow, after this 14th exclusion. Mr. Abel was vying for Governor in this national election. Mr. Abel’s exit comes as a shock to many in Milne Bay Province. He managed to poll 9,462 votes to be eliminated, leaving three candidates left in the race. Counting was suspended to 7am tomorrow (Tuesday 02.08.22) where the 15th exclusion will be the only other female left in the race – PANGU Pati’s Jennifer Rudd. People’s National Congress Party candidate Gordon Henry Wesley has a commanding lead of 32,380, followed by National Alliance Party candidate Tim Neville on 24,761 votes while United Resource Party’s Titus Philemon is on the spot with 23,542 votes. PNG to Start Major Rice Project in Central Province

Papua New Guinea’s Minister for International Trade and Investment Richard Maru is hopeful a major rice project in Kairuku in Central Province will get off the ground this year. He says the project though will have to get the blessing from the Central Provincial Government, Kairuku District Development Authority, Hiri-Koiari DDA, impact communities, and the National Government, who own the Manumanu land at Gabadi. Rice investors from the Philippines, who visited the project site at Gabadi recently, say millions of Kina will be needed to finance the growing of rice on a commercial scale.
