PNG Central Bank warns of High Inflation

Acting Governor of the Bank of Papua New Guinea Benny Popoitai has warned that developing economies, like Papua New Guinea would be adversely affected with high prices due to lack of social safety net programs and limited financial resources to minimize the impact, as economies are still recovering from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Global inflation increased significantly in the first half of 2022, due to rising fuel and gas prices, and food grains reflecting the impact of the Russia-Ukraine war. PNG PM Marape Meets Japanese PM Fumio Kishida in Tokyo

 Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape says he is privileged to have met Japanese Prime Minister Hon. Fumio Kishida in Tokyo today (Tuesday, September 27, 2022) before the state funeral of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. PM Marape, one of many world leaders attending Abe’s funeral, had a bilateral meeting with PM Kishida at Akasaka Palace this morning. He was accompanied by International Trade and Investment Minister Hon. Richard Maru, East Sepik Governor Hon. Allan Bird and Papua New Guinea Ambassador to Japan H.E.
