Marape thanks Opposition for his unopposed re-election as PNG Prime Minister

 PNG Prime Minister, James Marape has thanked members of the Opposition in an unprecedented move on Tuesday, to vote for him and the Speaker of the 11th Parliament. PNG Prime Minister, James Marape  He says this is the first time, that members from both sides of the House voted in favour of a prime minister.  Mr. Marape was re-elected unopposed with  97 votes to nil.  The only member who abstained from voting and left the chamber, was the Leader of the People’s National Congress Party, Peter O’Neill.  Mr Marape was speaking at the Government House yesterday. New Zealand Government to support PNG Election committee Electoral Process

The New Zealand Government  has offered its support to the newly established Papua New Guinea Parliamentary Election Committee to address election related  issues encountered in this election. New Zealand  Foreign Affairs Minister Nanaia Mahuta said this in a joint press conference between both countries this morning in Port Moresby. Her PNG  Counterpart , PNG’s Foreign Affairs Minister Justin Tkatchenko  says the New Zealand government will provide advice and support to the committee to get the election reform process right. ”We have just come out of an election and we have just set up a Parliamentary Committee to address election related  issues encountered in this election and East Sepik Governor Allan Bird will Chair the Committee. ”We are pleased that the New Zealand government is very keen in offering it’s assistance in providing advise and other necessary support as we have many electoral issues such as the common roll,” said Tkatchenko.      Meantim...
