PNG's Eastern Highlands Capital Goroka remains Tense following murder of the Country's Ports CEO

 The situation in Goroka is tense at the moment following the murder of late Chief Executive Officer of PNG Ports Corporation, Late Mr Fego Kiniafa.  The tribesmen of the Late Fego Kiniafa took to the streets of Goroka this morning to show their frustration, armed with Bush knives, following the murder of one of their elite son. The tribesmen even burnt down a few houses.  Police on the ground are doing their best to manage the situation while all businesses are closed for safety reasons.  Eastern Highlands Provincial Police Commander Michael Welly said police investigations are underway.  Meanwhile, the PNG Ports Corporation Limited Board have released a statement on the appointment of Mr Rodney Begley as Acting CEO of the State-Owned Enterprise.  PNG Ports Board Chairman Kepas Wali, in a statement says the acting-appointment of Mr Begley comes following the passing of the late Fego Kiniafa who was reported to have been murdered in Goroka on Saturday.  Mr Wali says the matter is now i...

Fiji PM Rabuka approves return of USP Vice-Chancellor, and Dr Padma Lal

Fiji  Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has moved quickly to ensure exiled University of the South Pacific Vice Chancellor, Professor Pal Ahluwalia, returns to Fiji as soon as possible. He has also acted to assist Dr Padma Lal, widow of the late Professor Brij Lal, to bring the ashes of the famed academic back home to Fiji from Australia. Car registrations up

Registrations of new cars for the first two months of 2023 are up 9.4pc on the same period last year, according to figures from Ireland’s motor trade organisation SIMI, writes Brian Byrne. Within that, sales of electric cars are showing much higher growth, up 37.5pc on the 2022 first two months. Electric vehicles are now at 14.56pc of total new car registrations, led by the Hyundai Ioniq 5 (above)from the VW ID.4, the Hyundai Kona, Kia EV6 and BMW i4. Petrol cars represent almost a third of a third of engine types, followed by diesel at 23.32pc, and hybrid at 19.16pc. The top selling car brands so far this year are Toyota, Hyundai, Volkswagen, Skoda and Kia. Light Commercial Vehicle sales are up 11pc on last year. 

Hyundai's Ioniq 6 on sale

Hyundai’s latest electric car, the Ioniq 6, is now on sale in Ireland at a starting price of €48,295 after private customer grants and VRT reliefs, writes Brian Byrne. The car has an extended coupe style, and is available with two battery sizes with claimed ranges of up to 429km and 614km respectively. Power outputs range from 151hp to 326hp.  There are 2WD and AWD versions and three grade options.
