Growing cucumbers by sowing seeds would appear straightforward at face value but this tropical food crop from India requires minimum temperatures for it to both germinate and then grow. Keep the seeds to cold and they won’t germinate, keep the young plants too cold and they will go into shock and refuse to grow! Bougainville Election Manger, Justin Pantumari spoke to FM100 News today to clarify the electoral process following the death of incumbent North Bougainviille MP and National Alliance candidate, William Nakin in Port Moresby on Tuesday. “We have policy and procedures regarding how to address any votes for a deceased candidate during scrutiny of the 2022 National Election. The instructions is very clear from the electoral commissioner. “The ballot paper that contains the vote of a deceased candidate is considered as a formal ballot and must be scrutinized and counted.” Mr Pantumari confirmed that according to PNG election laws “the ballot paper must be counted the same as, if the candidate was alive.” “The procedure for scrutiny, counting and exclusion remains the same and should proceed according to the established procedures until

PNG Parliament Speaker Job Pomat retains Manus Open Seat

Incumbent  Manus MP and  PNG Parliament speaker  Job Pomat has retained his Manus Open Seat, after being declared member-elect this morning. Mr. Pomat polled 9,186 votes exceeding the absolute majority in the 34th exclusion. This will be his second term in Parliament. Mr. Pomat  who contested under the Pangu Party was officially declared the Manus Open member-elect by Returning Officer Theresa Yohang at 8:30am this morning. He acknowledged all Manusians for trusting in his leadership, including the Electoral Commission and security personnel for facilitating and ensuring safe elections in the province. He had maintained a steady lead from the primary counts while former MP Ronnie Knight, and Lynne Ozzane Ronnie collected votes that saw them occupying the 2nd and 3rd positions through much of the race. By the 34th exclusion, the last women standing Lynne Ronnie bowed out with 5, 536 votes. Her ballots decided the final results. Mr. Knight reached 7,224 while Pomat reached 9, 168 votes e

Education Secretary Dr. Uke Kombra Dr. Kombra highlighted this when speaking at the opening of the National Teachers Rating Conference in Port Moresby yesterday. The Education Secretary says its a task that will need a collaborative effort from everyone within the education system. “In order for Papua New Guinea to address the issue or challenge of quality education – one area that we are all going to attend to is zero tolerance on teacher attendance. We must all address this. No one else will come and do it. Inspectors cannot say its PAs job. PA should not say its Inspectors job or teachers job.
