When will we weaponize our worth?

Commentary by Petrus GAND   I am not sure if anyone else is seeing what I am seeing?  Struggling, hustling, improvising and strategizing amid this ethnically diverged society [in Papua New Guinea] has brought us no good. Troublesome, chaos, destruction and vengeance appear to be our way of reacting to issues. And it grows insanely nasty isn’t it?  Clumsy our systems are that they have strangled our progress. Which is why harmony is unlikely to be the kind of state we would aim for in the decades to come.   It is very simple to manage an entity that has many liquid assets because it will back you up in the business world where market security is of high regard. And for a country, we have a trillion-worth of resources to support us. But it is quite confusing when our leaders who enter parliament happen to lose their compass and go off-track effortlessly.  This is where personal greed overrules. And it is evil. Evil greed. Anyhow, I’d never seen an MP in one of our human cages for culprit

Papua New Guinea to have a Medical University

Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape on Sunday night (December 11, 2022) announced that the government is moving to ensure that a standalone University for medical studies is established by 2025.  He was speaking at a ball night which marked the end of training for the final year medical students’ class of 2022. This year’s cohort is the 50th since the first cohort recited their Hippocratic oath in November 1972.   Papua New Guinea to have a Medical University  “In 1972 the medical faculty graduated six medical students. The population was just on three million. Over the last fifty years we have graduated an average of thirty new doctors per year, but our population has increased to well over ten million. Our doctor to patient ratio is therefore worrying and we have to address that problem head on.” PM Marape said that it is absolutely important that the government invests in the training of doctors to help close the ratio to a more acceptable level.  He said that the governmen

PNG Electoral Commissioner Sinai Calls for Legal Bills to be standardised

Papua New Guinea Electoral Commissioner Simon Sinai said the Commission will consult with relevant authorities including the Department of Justice and Attorney General to review the cost of legal fees that are charged by private firms on elections petitions and other matters. He said the State remains the single biggest clients to most of the law firms that are operating in the country, where all government departments and State agencies continue to hire their services. Mr Sinai said the government has been paying huge sums of money to private law firms without using an approved legal fee structure. “It is unfortunate that we don’t have a standardized or a prescribed legal fee structure that can be used as a guide to pay appropriate levels of fees to private lawyers. Currently the Commission is paying fees based on different categories of tasks that are undertaken, especially with election petitions. And that’s how we have been operating since the engagement of private lawyers in 2002

Five great ways to use your best travel photos

I love taking photos. Over the years, I have taken thousands. During that time, it has turned into something of a passion. I have been lucky enough to capture some wonderful images . Yet, I rarely get to enjoy them. Most of them are locked away on hard drives or they are on the cloud. That’s a real shame, so, today, I am going to share some ways you can get more out of your best travel photos. 1) Put them up around your home Top of the list is to get them printed out in a high-quality way and put them on display. For example, you could have a personalised picture collage created by a professional print firm. The prices are surprisingly reasonable, and the quality of the print is so good that it will look like a work of art. Large size canvas prints also look really good in your living room. 2) Invest in a few old school photo frames You could create several and categorize by theme. They also make good presents. Old-fashioned photo frames don’t cost much so you can also put a few on dis
