PNG Elections : Woman shot dead during Moresby North-East Polling

A woman was shot dead this afternoon, after hours of waiting to vote in the Moresby North-East electorate in the National Capital District. Reports received by this newsroom, indicate that people waited for hours until around midday when the ballot boxes were brought to Ward 9 of ATS Block Two. Voters waited since 8 o’clock this morning for ballot boxes to reach them and the crowd turned rowdy when ballot boxes eventually reached them and were brought to another location. PNG Elections : Manasseh Makiba wins Margarima Open Seat

 PANGU Party has secured another seat in this election bringing its total to three so far.  Manasseh Makiba was officially declared at 11:55am as the elected Member of Parliament for Magarima Open.  The M-P declared now puts his foot into history, as the first representative for the recently established Magarima District.  This followed completion of secondary vote count on Sunday.  Mr. Manasseh polled to victory after the 17th exclusion, with a vote tally of 20, 753.  While runner up for the open seat of Magarima Paul Agiru finished with 15, 482 votes.  Prime Minister James Marape was declared a week ago and his deputy John Rosso was declared in Lae last night.  Pic: Makiba (front left) in green Pangu Party cap watches on. PNG Elections : Return of Writs Extended to 12th August

The Papua New Guinea (PNG) Governor General has finally accepted a request by the PNG Electoral Commissioner, to extend the date for the Return of Writs, from the 29th of July to the 12th of August 2022. Grand Chief Sir Bob Dadae in a statement, says that he has agreed for the extension, because the electoral commission will not be able to complete all counting by this Friday. Sir Bob also says that an extension is necessary, because it will save time and resources, if it is declared a failed election, and new elections are called again in the near future. He also adds that the PNG Electoral Commission must look at what it had done wrong leading into the 2022 election, and start planning as early as 2023 for the 2027 elections. The Governor General has also called for the introduction of the biometric voting system, which he says will avoid all the problems the country has gone through in the 2022 election. ABG President Issues Warning to people Trying to destabilize Panguna Mine legacy Impact Assessment

By Angeline Karius, in Buka, ARoB – FM 100  The ABG President Ishmael Toroama has issued a warning to people seeking to destabilize the Panguna Legacy Impact Assessment that is ongoing within areas affected by the now defunct Panguna Mine.  Several parties are seeking legal action against Rio Tinto for their role in developing the Panguna Mine and the effects it has had on the environment and the communities around the mine.  The Panguna Legacy Impact Assessment is being funded by Rio Tinto through Tera Tech Coffey who is conducting the assessment.  This will be the first time Rio Tinto has made any commitment to Bougainville since the cessation of mining operations in Panguna, Central Bougainville.  According to President Toroama, the assessment took a lot of hard work and time to get Rio Tinto to at least take responsibility for its actions in developing the Panguna Mine and the effects of it that continues to the present.  “These people are opportunists who saw no reason for a ...
