PNG Elections : Manasseh Makiba wins Margarima Open Seat

 PANGU Party has secured another seat in this election bringing its total to three so far.  Manasseh Makiba was officially declared at 11:55am as the elected Member of Parliament for Magarima Open.  The M-P declared now puts his foot into history, as the first representative for the recently established Magarima District.  This followed completion of secondary vote count on Sunday.  Mr. Manasseh polled to victory after the 17th exclusion, with a vote tally of 20, 753.  While runner up for the open seat of Magarima Paul Agiru finished with 15, 482 votes.  Prime Minister James Marape was declared a week ago and his deputy John Rosso was declared in Lae last night.  Pic: Makiba (front left) in green Pangu Party cap watches on. PNG PM Marape Disappointed at 'Fake News ' about Mining and Petroleum Conference in Australia

Papua New Guinea Prime Minister  James Marape says it is very disappointing that foreign-owned media in the country continues to run “fake news”. He said this today (December 8, 2022) after an editorial in The National claimed that former Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop had rubbished Papua New Guinea at the PNG Mining and Petroleum Conference in Sydney this week. “Nothing could be further from the truth,” PM Marape, who attended the Sydney conference on Monday, said. “The people of Australia and PNG demand an apology from The National for what seems to be a deliberate attempt to damage good relations between our two countries, “Even PNG Chamber of Mines and Petroleum President Anthony Smare, who organised the conference, is bewildered at where The National got this information from. “Such lies, propagated by foreign-owned media in PNG, will only damage the good relations between Australia and PNG that have existed long before they came in. “The 1000-plus people who packed the

PNG's OK Tedi Mining ltd to Pay K300 million dividend to Shareholders

 OTML TO PAY K300 MILLION DIVIDEND TO SHAREHOLDERS  Papua New Guinea’s Ok Tedi Mining Limited (OTML) has announced a dividend of K300 Million which will be paid to its shareholders, on or before the 31st of December 2022.  OTML Chairman, Dr Roger Higgins thanked employees, contract partners and mine impacted communities, for their support throughout 2022. He added that though 2022 was a challenging year, which saw the Company transition to higher grade ore sources, and they were faced with the additional costs, associated with a sharp escalation in oil price, they are pleased to report that Ok Tedi remains profitable, and continues to deliver for its shareholders. Dr Higgins also said that they now look forward to copper grade improving by more than 20 percent in 2023, as the transition continues, and a further extension of the mine life from 2032 to 2033. This he said follows the latest Strategic Business Plan recently approved by the OTML Board, which gives rise to growing optimism.
