PNG PM Marape Denies Son's Alleged Involvement in Transportation of K1.56 million cash into Hela Province

Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape today brushed aside reports on social media about his son’s alleged involvement in the transportation of monies amounting to K1.56 million from Port Moresby to Komo in Hela Province.  He clarified this when speaking to the media upon returning from voting in his electorate this afternoon. PM Marape’s son was detained by Police at Komo airport in Hela Province after he was in possession of about K1.56 million [Photo by Komo Police] Mr. Marape said his son was at a location nearby to where the suspect was found with the monies. PNG PM Marape Targets Growth in Agriculture with Four Ministries in the same sector

 Papua New Guinea Prime Minister  James Marape says the allocation of four ministries to the agriculture sector is a complete paradigm shift to get agriculture moving again. The Marape Government’s focus on ‘Taking Back PNG’ is deeply embedded in the agriculture sector – which is the backbone of Papua New Guinea to drive the country and economy. The Prime Minister said it was no secret that agriculture had declined since Independence in 1975, and allocation of the four ministries was to rekindle the sector, for it to be a major income-generator for PNG. PNG International Trade Minister Maru supports border post call

Papua New Guinea  Minister for International Trade and Investment, Richard Maru has thrown his support behind moves by the Government to classify border posts as Special Economic Zones (SEZs). Prime Minister James Marape made the Government’s intentions known on the floor of parliament last week. Minister Maru told  local FM 100/ news that border posts are mini SEZs and will be identified as economic hubs that will be put into the SEZ reports. He said the government needs to build infrastructures like buildings, roads and bridges to house customs, police and Defence officers at the border posts. Meanwhile,  the Prime Minister said the boarder districts and provinces will be developed into trade and commerce hubs for economic purposes. He says the Department of Foreign Affairs together with the Department of Trade and International Relations and the Department of Defense will be engaged to layout the infrastructure of the border posts.
