Security tightened up as Moresby North East goes into Elimination Round

Security at the Sir John Guise Sports complex in Port Moresby is on heightened alert as counting officals prepare to go into the elimination stages before a winner for the Port Moresby North East seat, is declared. Security at the stadium was beefed up when tensions swelled amongst the supporters of rival candidates which led to a clash outside the stadium recently.  Election scrutineers at Sir John Guise stadium, Port Moresby, Police media photo Since then, soldiers were deployed to boost security at the counting venues and their presence has so far helped to defuse the tensions in NCD. We appeal to city residents to remain calm  and allow Election Officials to complete the elimination process. Police have also increased their operations across NCD Metro and they will not hesitate to come down hard on trouble makers. PNG Prime Minister's Post to become vacant after 4Pm today : Kwa

 There will be no Prime Minister and National Executive Council for Papua New Guinea after today- Friday, 5th of August, 2022. PNG Governor General Saddened at Passing of Sir Tipo Vuatha

H.E. Grand Chief Sir Bob Bofeng Dadae, Governor General of Papua New Guinea, has expressed sadness at the passing of former Official Secretary Sir Tipo Vuatha. Sir Tipo succumbed to illness and passed away last week. Sir Tipo was the longest serving Official Secretary at the Governor General’s Office and served three Governor Generals, Sir Silas Atopare, Grand Chief Sir Paulias Matane and Grand Chief Sir Michael Ogio from 1997 to 2016.  He commenced employment at the Governor General’s Office as an Accountant in the early 1990s and made his way up to the position of the Official Secretary in charge of administration of Government House. In 2007, Sir Tipo was awarded Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order, LVO, the only recipient of this award in the country.  In 2016, shortly before retiring at the age of 65, Sir Tipo received the award of Knight Bachelor in recognition for his service to the Governor General’s Office as Official Secretary and as a long serving public servant.
