As PNG is halfway through the National Elections, the burning question is: Who will form the next government? In the last three years, it was the Pangu Pati, and prior to that, People’s National Congress.  The Marape-led Pangu Pati seems to have backed many favourite candidates, in the country’s 2022 National Elections, as political parties hope to get the numbers to be invited by the Governor-General to form the next government in the 11th Parliament. ABG President Issues Warning to people Trying to destabilize Panguna Mine legacy Impact Assessment

By Angeline Karius, in Buka, ARoB – FM 100  The ABG President Ishmael Toroama has issued a warning to people seeking to destabilize the Panguna Legacy Impact Assessment that is ongoing within areas affected by the now defunct Panguna Mine.  Several parties are seeking legal action against Rio Tinto for their role in developing the Panguna Mine and the effects it has had on the environment and the communities around the mine.  The Panguna Legacy Impact Assessment is being funded by Rio Tinto through Tera Tech Coffey who is conducting the assessment.  This will be the first time Rio Tinto has made any commitment to Bougainville since the cessation of mining operations in Panguna, Central Bougainville.  According to President Toroama, the assessment took a lot of hard work and time to get Rio Tinto to at least take responsibility for its actions in developing the Panguna Mine and the effects of it that continues to the present.  “These people are opportunists who saw no reason for a class

PNG Siblings Star in Short Film to Premier in Hollywood

Two Papua New Guinean’s starring in a short narrative film will be in Hollywood for the premier of the movie titled Bataplai/Butterfly on May 5th, 2023. The siblings – 29-year old Regina Pande and her 27-year old brother Graham from Western Highlands Province, will feature in the movie about a mixed raced Papua New Guinean-American woman who challenges her family’s strict rules to find her voice as a make-up artist.  They said they’re happy to be part of this project that broadens the view of what a Pacific Islander looks like and the experience of a Papua New Guinean American.  The siblings reside in Silicon Valley and are travelling to Los Angeles today to attend the premiere in Hollywood.
