The Papua New Guinea Government will impose a blanket ban on the importation of frozen chickens into the country to protect the Billion-Kina local poultry industry.  PNG’s Agriculture Minister Aiye Tambua announced, that the ban will take effect at the end of this month.  He says protecting the poultry industry from imported diseases is the main reason for the decision. VEGAN IN NOVI SAD: VEGAN RESTAURANTS IN NOVI SAD, FARMERS MARKETS AND MORE!

We were surprised how good (small but good!) the Novi Sad vegan scene was! There are currently three properly vegan restaurants, many pekaras (bakeries) with posno (basically vegan, see below) pastries, wonderful farmers’ markets (we managed to identify three), many many mikromarkets (greengrocers’) everywhere, organic food shops (Zdrava Hrana) and supermarkets with decent produce and all the other stuff usually need (esp. powdered flax seed). Actually, once, in the midst of the pandemic in 2020, around December in locked-down Budapest, having failed to get over the border via bus (which had all stopped), we caved and bought flight tickets to Belgrade – we...

Tropical Garden UK - Early Autumn maintenance

Its is now October and autumn is upon us. So this with the cooler night temperatures and lower light temperatures out exotic cold-hardy tropical effect plants are starting to run out of steam. Dahlias are getting leggy, canna lilies are losing the intensity of leaf colour and the hostas are beginning to die back in preparation for winter. However, this slow decline can be halted, albeit superficially by dead-heading flowering specimens, keeping weeds at bay and supporting those plants that are now beginning to struggle under their own weight. Autumn maintenance will also push into winter preparations so watch English horticulturist walk round his garden and discuss the up and coming jobs that will need to be done in a timely fashion to ensure great displays next year.
