PM Marape warns Media in PNG not to take Political Sides

PNG Prime Minister and PANGU Party Leader, James Marape have warned the media to stay away from political and personal preferences. He says it was clear during the 2022 national election that certain media houses were taking sides with politicians and political parties and this does not reflect well on the media industry in PNG. PNG PM Marape  The Prime Minister says the Government and PANGU Party appreciate the role of free media. However, he is urging the media to be fair in their reporting. Prime Minister Marape further says media in PNG had traditionally been among the strongest and most independent in the South Pacific, but media freedom had to some extent been eroded in recent years. He pointed out that freedoms of speech, the press, and information are guaranteed under Section 46 of the Constitution and it is something he is proud of. Delays in Government's TFF Funds disbursement, force Public Schools in PNG to start the 2023 academic year on credit basis

Funds from  the  PNG Marape-Rosso government’s Tuition Fee Free policy are yet to hit the accounts of schools in the national education system. Education Secretary Dr. Uke Kombra had said last week, the department received two warrants totalling K396 million, and expected the funds to be deposited into schools accounts later that week. However, this is yet to happen, and a good number of schools are operating on a credit basis to get learning and teaching materials on time for normal classes this week. Schools are appealing to parents to ensure their children’s needs in terms of stationery and uniforms are met before sending them for classes. Principal of Wardstrip Primary School in NCD Rotona Girana said they are operating on credit basis. “Right now I have my teachers distributing the materials. That’s on credit. Because I’m assured that the TFF is paid, then I have an arrangement with my service providers. When it comes, I will pay. So no fees are paid....
