Kaupa Retains Moresby North-East Open Seat

Sitting Member for Moresby North-East and PANGU Pati candidate John Kaupa has retained his seat. Mr. Kaupa was officially declared at 2pm this afternoon by the Returning Officer, Billy George at the Sir John Guise Stadium. Mr. Kaupa polled 18,365 votes surpassing the absolute majority of 18,038. His runner up, independent candidate, Andapanga Alfred Baliawe polled 17,508 votes. In his speech, Mr. Kaupa acknowledged the people of Moresby North-East for having the trust and confidence in him to serve them for another term of Parliament. He also thanked the other 75 candidates for a good race in the national election and for ensuring the smooth running of the counting process.
