PNG Wants Women football to be included in MSG Cup

PNG has taken the lead again as big brother in Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Prime Minister’s Cup football challenge and propose the introduction of women football in the next edition of MSG Cup next year. PNG Sports Foundation Executive Director Albert Veratau said PNG is pushing for women football amongst the Melanesian countries to promote gender balance and promote women folk to be part of the football tournament. Other sports proposed to be part on the MSG Sports Program include rugby which Fiji will be taking the lead to promote in the region and boxing. As the say goes, Mr Veratau said sports in general has no boundary and love to see other sports being part of the MSG program. Mr Veratau who took over the reign as new sport boss less than a year ago has been fighting tooth and nail after sports almost came to its knees due to lack of good administration and other related issues. PNG Police Chief Manning cancels firearm licence and calls on suspect to surrender to police

 PNG Police Commissioner David Manning has cancelled the firearm licences of a Southern Highlands man and has called on him to surrender to police in relation to allegations of unlawful discharge of a firearm and threatening. The suspect, Fiebik Simon, while allegedly under the influence of alcohol, used a firearm to threaten a woman in the National Capital District and refused to surrender his weapons to police. Photograph of the suspect, Fiebik Simon [Police Media] Police Commissioner David Manning, as the Registrar of Firearms, cancelled Simon’s two gun licences and forfeited his firearms to the custody of the state. Simon allegedly discharged the firearm and threatened the woman and her family at the Mautana settlement last year and is now wanted by police. Mr Manning said the victim filed a complaint with police who have since recovered one of the two weapons used in the Mautana incident.
