Blog Tour - Caridad Piñeiro's Sins of the Flesh (& a Giveaway - closed)

Readers, please join me welcoming Caridad Piñeiro, author of Sins of the Flesh who’s guest blogging here today!

Synopsis : Caterina Shaw’s days are numbered. Her only chance for survival is a highly experimental gene treatment-a risk she willingly takes. But now Caterina barely recognizes herself. She has new, terrifying powers, an exotic, arresting body-and she’s been accused of a savage murder, sending her on the run.

Mick Carrera is a mercenary and an expert at capturing elusive, clever prey. Yet the woman he’s hunting down is far from the vicious killer he’s been told to expect: Caterina is wounded, vulnerable, and a startling mystery of medical science. Even more, she’s a beautiful woman whose innocent sensuality tempts Mick to show her exactly how thrilling pleasure can be. The heat that builds between them is irresistible, but surrendering to it could kill them both . . . for a dangerous group is plotting its next move using Caterina as its deadly pawn.

For many years I used to write contemporary romances and while I enjoyed doing so, I invariably found myself injecting some element of suspense into what I was writing.

Even before the line for which I was writing folded, I was already challenging myself to write something grittier and darker. Releasing that inner suspense writer that I had kept under rein for so long. The result of that challenge was my first paranormal suspense story and it opened doors for me!

I had finally found my strongest voice. One which rejoiced in writing dark, edgy and action-packed stories, much like my current release Sins of the Flesh.

But some of you might be asking, but what about the high tech aspects of Sins of the Flesh? What about all that science stuff that is in the novel? How does that make SINS a paranormal suspense much less an action-packed suspense?

In truth, SINS is a unique paranormal in that the paranormal elements are actually quite real life, although they seem paranormal because they are so radical. Genetic engineering is moving ahead in amazing leaps and bounds and so things like Caterina’s glowing skin are more real than fiction.

And if paranormals require monsters, there are definitely monsters in SINS. Ones more scary than in other paranormals because they are human monsters and we are much more likely to encounter them and suffer from their evil deeds.

As for the action versus high tech – I’m lucky that this particular story lends itself to lots of action and adventure. Besides some chases, there are a number of fight scenes as the hero and heroine battle the baddies. Because of that, the high tech element is in the background in this story.

In the future stories in the series, the high tech element will play a more prominent role as I introduce things like nanotechnology, bionics and more genetic experimentation.

But regardless of whether the stories will be more high tech or action/adventure, there is one thing all will have in common – compelling characters. I am very much a character driven writer and my goal when I write is to have you fall in love with the characters and have you cheering for them to overcome their conflicts and adversity at the end of the story. I hope that you will feel that way about Mick and Caterina from Sins of the Flesh.

And characters make the story, as this bookworm well knows. Thanks for that great post, Caridad!
