PNG elections : PNG PM Marape's Tari-Pori electorate Counting commences

Hela’s Assistant Provincial Election Manager Anne Pane said counting is expected to start today (Wednesday 6th)  for the Tari Pori Urban Local Level Government which is the current prime minister James Marape’s seat.

Anne Pane says all boxes from the electorate are in Tari for counting to start.

She said “The whole electorate has completed its polling so we are thinking of starting tomorrow. That’s for Tari-Pori electorate. All boxes are here, while waiting for other remote areas to come in. Which electorate is ready is going to go straight into counting. We won’t waste time.”

Meanwhile, the counting of votes in this year’s national election will be done according to each LLG wards in districts.

Anne Pane confirmed they will be following the new method of election counting.

She said “Counting process is different from the past election. Why I’m saying this is we are going to count in LLG’s. So one electorate will have its own building there with different count stations according to the number of LLG’s in each electorate. We are looking at engaging 50 counting officials per counting station according to the number of candidates that they have in each electorate.”

The new practice of counting will be done in all counting places throughout the country as approved by the PNG Electoral Commission.
