Papua New Guinea will be well represented at the annual international climate change negotiations, the Conference of Parties or COP 27 in Egypt next month.

Climate Change and Development Authority’s acting Managing Director,  William Lakain echoed this during a recent weeklong training of key government agencies who will be attending the meeting.

The week-long negotiation training ended successfully preparing participants from key government agencies for the annual COP 27 scheduled for November 6 to the18.

The training enables participants to understand the negotiations’ history and players, how the country’s positions are formed, documentation used, including treaties, the scientific and political contexts in which COP 27 will take place including current issues that will influence negotiations agendas.

Minister for Environment, Conservation and Climate Change,  Simo Kilepa says it is interesting to see key agencies of government gather to learn and upscale their capacity to participate in climate negotiations at the international level.

The Minister importantly reminded participants to remember how  climate change is affecting communities back in PNG, during negotiations at the international level

The Weeklong training was hosted by Climate Change and Development Authority in partnership with the Global Green Growth Institute.

The 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference, more commonly referred to as COP27, will be the 27th United Nations Climate Change conference, to be held from 6th to 18th November 2022 in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
