PNG Government departments to sort out Rental Payment issues

The PNG Department of Finance and Nambawan Super Ltd are working to reconcile figures for the rental arrears.

Finance Secretary Dr. Ken Ngangan in response to questons by this newsroom says NSL’s total figure of K160 million is inclusive of some costs, which shouldn’t include in rental invoices.

He pointed out that this includes rent for office space, utilities and maintenance.

Dr. Ngangan says the Finance Department met with NSL last week and agreed to have technical officers from both sides reconcile the figures which are currently being facilitated and ongoing.

He says a partial payment of K50 million has been made last week.

Meantime, Nambawan Super Limited (NSL) is adamant, that the locking out of State entities will continue until a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) is signed between them and the State.

NSL Chairman Reg Monagi, said that this MOA, will contain the schedule of payments, which is agreed to by both parties, to settle the remaining arrears of over K120 million in rentals.

Nambawan Super Ltd says its actions to lock out State tenants were purely commercial.

NSL Chairman Reg Monagi, however, says despite the lockouts, the Superfund is continuing to engage with the State to proactively resolve the issue in a more mutually satisfying manner.

Nambawan Super Ltd has locked out several State Government Department offices this week from their rental properties due to non-payment of rental arrears by the Government.

State agencies that have been locked out include the Internal Revenue Commission, Finance, Treasury as well as Lands and Physical Planning.
