PNG Elections : NCD Polling Deferred to Friday 8th July

Polling for the National Capital District has been  further delayed to Friday 8th of July, 2022. NCD Election Manager Kila Ralai said the decision to defer was made because of interference in the administration process by the candidates and scrutineers in Moresby North East electorate. Polling in City of Port Moresby delayed until Friday 8th July  Ralai apologized to the voters and all the stakeholders involved but said this was done to maintain the integrity of the office of the Electoral Commission. He further said the process is more important than the date scheduled for elections. Ralai said they are ready to deliver the elections however however since the interferences are done by stakeholders of the election, they had to attend to them. Port Moresby North East Candidate Raises Concerns of Alleged Tampering of Ballot Papers

 By Joe GURINA : FM 100  Port Moresby North East Candidates claim “cheating” has been practiced in the polling preparations. They raised their concerns after discovering that two extra boxes of ballot papers were allocated for two wards and delivered to Sir John Guise stadium last Sunday in preparation of the polling period. Ms Tania Bale They are calling on the Electoral Commission’s NCD Election Manager to destroy the two extra boxes of ballot papers estimated to be 8,000 in total. The boxes were allegedly moved on Sunday evening from ATC (Air Transport Control) to the Sir John Guise stadium by polling officials without consulting the candidates who are now questioning the authenticity of the extra ballot papers. PNG PM James Marape Denies Being Chased out of Wewak

Papua New Guinea Prime Minister and Tari-Pori MP James Marape has denied he was chased out of Wewak in East Sepik province, where he and his Pangu Pati members have set up camp in an attempt to form the new government. In a statement today, Mr. Marape called on fake news peddlers to apologise to the Somare family and people of Wewak and East Sepik Province. He said this in response to a fake news story widely circulated on social media today that he was chased out of Wewak by the Somare family. “People propagating these lies must apologise to the Somare family and good people of Wewak and East Sepik that I was chased out of Wewak.” “I neither met with Sana Somare nor got into a confrontation with him, leading to me being chased out of Wewak.”  “It is very unfortunate that people are so gullible and believe the lies being spun,” said Mr. Marape.
