PNG's Eastern Highlands Capital Goroka remains Tense following murder of the Country's Ports CEO

 The situation in Goroka is tense at the moment following the murder of late Chief Executive Officer of PNG Ports Corporation, Late Mr Fego Kiniafa.  The tribesmen of the Late Fego Kiniafa took to the streets of Goroka this morning to show their frustration, armed with Bush knives, following the murder of one of their elite son. The tribesmen even burnt down a few houses.  Police on the ground are doing their best to manage the situation while all businesses are closed for safety reasons.  Eastern Highlands Provincial Police Commander Michael Welly said police investigations are underway.  Meanwhile, the PNG Ports Corporation Limited Board have released a statement on the appointment of Mr Rodney Begley as Acting CEO of the State-Owned Enterprise.  PNG Ports Board Chairman Kepas Wali, in a statement says the acting-appointment of Mr Begley comes following the passing of the late Fego Kiniafa who was reported to have been murdered in Goroka on Saturday.  Mr Wali says the matter is now i

Foreign businessman wearing PNG Police Uniform to be charged

Papua New Guinea  Commissioner of Police, David Manning, has directed RPNGC Deputy Commissioner of Operations, Anton Billie, to investigate allegations that the owner of a business in Banz, Jiwaka Province, was attending his public store wearing a police uniform. A video of the man has also been circulated on social media and this has prompted further questions from the public. Mr Manning said, “DCP Ops (Deputy Commissioner Operations) has reported to me that the man had no legitimate reason to be wearing a police uniform at the time he was seen in public. “The man has been identified and had the right to have his explanation heard, however he could offer no plausible reason for him purporting to be executing official police duties when he had no authority to do so. “Based on the evidence before me, this person will now be charged with a series of disciplinary and criminal offences likely under the Police Act and the Criminal Code. “Through this disciplinary process, that comes with pe
