What is a Stumpery Garden

So, just what is a ‘Stumpery’ garden? Well, similar to a rockery it is a garden which used old tree stumps to create an artistic design within a garden setting. The first stumpery was built in 1856 at Biddulph Grange and they remained popular in Victorian Britain. We visit one of the best modern stumperys in the UK which was built with in the walls of Arundel castle, West Sussex. Of course it is not just the tree stumps that give ornamental effect it is the planting scheme supporting it to show of these magnificent piece of nature architecture that really make this garden shine. Hostages released after PNG Government paid ransom to kidnappers

 The Papua New Guinea Government  has paid part of a K3.5 million kina ransom demanded by kidnappers in Southern Highlands for the safe release of a foreign archaeologist and his two research counterpart today (Sunday 26th/02/23).  This was confirmed by Prime Minister James Marape when, the trio arrived in Port Moresby after 4.30pm this afternoon.  hostages arrive at Port Moresby’s Jacksons Airport  They were accompanied by Police Commissioner David Manning to Port Moresby, in a Tropic Air Plane following their release. Mr Marape who met them at the airport confirmed to the media, the State paid some monies but did not disclose, the exact amount.  “They were released nothing close to a K3.5 million kina as demanded or requested was paid. We’ve reached a critical stage in the operation were we could not delay any more, they had to come out alive. Engagement was possible, security and lives of the three were at risk, first things first we had to secure them out alive,”  Marape said. The

Native to the combined continental landmass of Europe and Asia, it is is low-growing and highly branched in habit with long narrow, grey-green leaves. It has single, four-petaled purple to white flowers, which are approximately 1 to 2 cm wide and carried on 45-60 cm spikes in July and August. The blooms open at night to reveal a delicious, heavy scent, reminiscent to some gardeners of vanilla, rose, spice and even cloves! Night-scented stock will thrive in any good garden soil in a position of full sun, although they will also tolerate partial shade if necessary. However, to perform at their best the soil should be a slightly alkaline, fertile, medium loam. If the soil is poor then it may need to be enriched by digging in plenty of well-rotted farm manure or
