Air Niugini has upgraded and increased flights on its busy route to Nadzab airport in Lae following the completion of runway improvement works by National Airports Corporation (NAC). The move will provide a new level of comfort to our customers travelling to and from Lae and allow Air Niugini to increase capacity especially during peak periods, allowing Papua New Guineans to arrive home in time to celebrate Christmas and New Year with families and loved ones. The airline operated its first Boeing 737 commercial flight into Nadzab airport just before Independence on Thursday 15th September, and the B737 aircraft will now become a regular sight at Nadzab over the coming months and years. Air Niugini’s General Manager Commercial and Distribution, Mr Paul Abbot said, “Lae is the largest transport and industrial hub for the Momase region, and a key centre for the Papua New Guinea economy as a whole. “The Boeing 737-800 can carry up to 144 passengers per flight (16 Business and 128 Economy)

PNG Education Department to address Poor Teacher Attendance

Papua New Guinea Education Secretary Dr. Uke Kombra has singled out teacher’s attendance to class as an emerging issue that the Department needs to deal with urgently. Education Secretary Dr. Uke Kombra Dr. Kombra highlighted this when speaking at the opening of the National Teachers Rating Conference in Port Moresby yesterday. The Education Secretary says its a task that will need a collaborative effort from everyone within the education system. “In order for Papua New Guinea to address the issue or challenge of quality education – one area that we are all going to attend to is zero tolerance on teacher attendance. We must all address this. No one else will come and do it. Inspectors cannot say its PAs job. PA should not say its Inspectors job or teachers job. All of us have to play that role.” “If we can improve attendance, you will see the result of students actually learning in the classroom,” Dr. Kombra said. The National Teachers Rating Conference will end this Friday. NBC News /

Being a single mother is the most difficult job on earth! Q. You deal with some difficult subjects: grief, heartbreak, even drug addiction. How do you handle writing about these topics? A. I pull from real people who have walked down similar roads. My husband and I are currently walking alo

Elche Mediterranean Gardens, Spain Slide Show - Home to Cacti, Succulent...

Welcome to our slide show of  Elche Garden – Huerto del Cura, Alicante Spain. This wonderful garden is home to a fantastic display of cacti, succulents, Tropical, Exotic and Mediterranean plants. The undisputed star of the garden is the specimen of Phoenix dactylifera known as the ‘Imperial Palm’, a date palm with 7 arms that emerge at a height of 1.50 m from the main trunk and an age of about 165 years! This was my second visit to Elche gardens and I can genuinely say that the standard across the whole of the garden was much improved. The displays looked well maintained and the plants themselves seemed stronger, healthier and in much better condition. However the last time I was there Spain was in the middle of a heat wave with temperatures entering the low 40’s Celsius and no one like that including most of the plants. So if you are in the area I would definitely recommend a visit as it is arguably the best garden in the area – just remember to always take water with you. If you woul
