International flights out of Port Moresby and Lae  in Papua New Guinea are affected after the National Airport Corporation (NAC) closed the at Jacksons International Airport and Lae Nadzab airports.  Airlines in PNG have advised the general public of the closure of airports and cancellation of flights. Air Niugini has informed  their customers  that early on Saturday morning(12th November), National Airports Corporation (NAC) advised that they had closed both Port Moresby and Nadzab airports for all flights.  NAC closes Port Moresby and Lae Airports, domestic and International Flights affected  [Photo by PNG Air] At 8:30am , NAC reopened Port Moresby airport for international flights only. PX3 to Brisbane (and PX4 return) and PX80 to Honiara (and PX81 return) will operate but are significantly delayed as a consequence.  NAC has advised that both Port Moresby and Lae airports remain closed for all domestic flights, and NAC expect the airport will not reopen until Sunday morning Air Niug

 Papua New Guinea Police Commissioner David Manning  has  confirmed to local media that his men intercepted and confiscated 250 kilograms of illegal drugs  methamphetamine  and apprehended two Malaysians and two Papua New Guineans after  being tipped off during the early hours of 2am today in NCD. Manning says a small quantity of the illegal substance was  supposed to be posted overseas but was intercepted by police.  This led to the arrest of the two PNG nationals and two expatriates of Malaysian origin. Manning says there is an emergence  of a well organized crime syndicate involving nationals and expatriates and it is posing a threat to National security as well as threat to the young and mobile population of Papua New Guinea. The suspects are in police custody and will be charged under the Amended Act on Dangerous Drugs Act and other Proceeds Crime Act and Money Laundering Act.
