PNG Chief Justice Sir Gibbs Salika steps down following his daughter's arrest

Papua New Guinea  Justice Minister and Attorney General Pila Niningi, has announced that the country’s Chief Justice Sir Gibbs Salika, has stepped down from official duties for an indefinite period, as of yesterday-Wednesday 5th October 2022. Chief Justice Sir Gibbs Salika, has stepped down Minister Niningi says that this was done to protect the integrity of the office of the Chief Justice, following the arrest of his daughter, and a tribunal hearing into a Member of Parliament. Gloria Salika a lawyer by profession was arrested and charged in connection with 83 counts of fraud-related charges, allegedly involving Non-Comunity Mine Continuation Agreement or CMCA funds, totalling K268 million, belonging to the Western Province people. The case is set for trial at the National Court sometime this month. Mazda's PHEV MX-30 revealed today

This is the promised plug-in hybrid version of Mazda’s electric car, the MX-30 E-Skyactiv R-EV, writes Brian Byrne. A mouthful of a name, the car is revealed at the Brussels Motor Show today and features a rated 85km electric range, with a new rotary engine extended range petrol engine to enable longer journeys. The electric motor will power the car all the time, the rotary engine kicking in only to recharge the battery or to give additional power during sudden acceleration. The petrol tank for the engine is 50 litres, providing a potential combined range competitive to a standard petrol car. The Mazda rotary engine is based on the concept developed by German engineer Felix Wankel in the 1950s. The Japanese company produced it for a range of RX sports cars until 2012, after which it was only used in a racing championship up to 2017. A prototype rotary engine used as an EV range extender was shown in a Mazda2 in 2013.

Car dealership Joe Mallon Motors of Naas, Co Kildare, has been named the National winner of the ZEVI Electric Vehicle Dealership of the Year award at the SEAI Energy Show in the RDS, writes Trish Whelan. The Renault dealership was selected by a panel of experts who assessed each dealership’s performance across a range of criteria amid tough and challenging competition. Some 124 car dealerships from 24 counties participated in this year’s awards.  Four regional finalists were previously announced at the Society of the Irish Motor Industry Awards in February for their demonstrated commitment to best-in-class customer experience.
