Southern Highlands aims to complete counting soon says ACP Kale

Security forces and PNG Electoral Commission officials in the Southern Highlands Province met this week to look at strategies to complete counting before 12 August, the new date for the return of writs for the 2022 National General Election. “Counting in the province is a bit slow so I had a meeting with the Provincial Election Manager Mr Alwynn Jimmy, the Quick Response Force Commanders, Provincial Police Commander Chief Inspector Daniel Yangen and the electoral officials in the province to strategise on how we can fast-track the counting,” Highlands Western End Commander acting Assistant Commissioner John Kale said. Mr Kale said counting in the Southern Highlands province is so far progressing well without any major election related issues, however, he has received police intelligence reports of an alleged build-up of firearms within Mendi township. PNG PM Marape arrives in New York, USA

 Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape has arrived in the United States to attend the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) meetings in New York. Mr Marape and his wife Mrs Rachel Marape arrived at the JFK International airport at 3.15pm Wednesday 21st September 2022, New York time from London, UK where he attended the funeral of late Queen Elizabeth II. They were received by Mr Max Rai, Ambassador and PNGs Permanent Representative to the UN and Charge d’ Affaires of the Embassy of PNG to US in Washington, Mr Cephas Kayo. Fiji Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka arrives in PNG

 Fiji Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has arrived in Papua New Guinea and paid a courtesy call to the Government House. He was welcomed by the Governor General His Excellency Sir Bob Dadae and a traditional Fiji Ceremony by the Fijian Community in Port Moresby. Mr Rabuka is the first Prime Minister to arrive for the Pacific Leaders Summit, ahead of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, New Zealand Prime Minister Chris Hipkins. They will be joined by other Pacific islands leaders in the coming days.
